<description>My wife and I were in crete in 2007 and toured the island in a hired car, we stopped at one of the many roadside homemade booths selling potatoes and oranges. I purchased a bagful of the most mis-shaped oranges that would never be seen on a supermarket shelf. From the first to the last those oranges were the most beautiful tasting oranges I have ever eaten. My wife is forever telling that I go overboard in mentioning my cretan orange expperience, when she ate most of them. But my most memorable food encounter was purchasing at the departure lounge a bottle of Cretan Organic cold pressed virgin olive oil which is long gone, and which I cannot find in the U.K. And the name of which is long gone too. I would appreciare any helpful information from your good self, and I hope my name will bring back a vanload of memories for you. by the way i'm a Tony Blair fan to, my letterbomb is in the post, but I don't think he has opened it yet. <description>Hi Philippa, Sorry for the late reply, we've been busy weeding and tidying up the groves ready for picking. This year we have tried to grow with as little irrigation as possible so our harvest will be late. We went for 160 days without rain, but god has sent us some now and the olives, which were like tiny raisens, are now fattening. We've been told that the taste, already sublime, improves if you give the trees some harsh treatment. We'll see.
And yes, we are in the Sitia cooperative. We live in Sitia, and can see our groves from home (and vice-versa). The tiny hamlet ( Agios Spiridona, pop. 30) lies high up on the valley side. Our trees, many 200+years old, produce lovely oil for us, very low in acidity and fruity. We're looking forward now to this years fresh oil, unfiltered and straight from the press. There's nothing like it.
You can always email us, go to the contact page.

<description>Your account of life in Crete toiling under the sun with your olives, is inspiring. As you see from my surname, I have Greek connections - I,m English, I was married to a Greek and have a great love of the country. I now import Sitia olive oil, and was interested to see your site come up when I googled Sitia oil. I would very much like to know if your 'St. Spiridon' olive oil falls within the Sitia boundaries? Are the same olives used for the production of your oil and Sitia oil etc. I wish you kali tiki, kai kali dinami, and would love to hear more of your exploration into Cretian life. Philippa in Dorset, UK.</description>

<description>How interesting! or is that... dream come true?!

Like Maggie, I just stumbled across this blog - I'm not a blogger, but have a new interest in olives. I know you pros won't believe this but Texas (in the good ole USA) has began the journey into olive oil production. It's very interesting to meet someone from Crete via the UK who has begun to live the dream. Even though I'm not foolish enough to think that your life is all "farming fun!" - I am certainly envious of your boldness to pursue it.

Best wishes for your adventure and to anyone else out there who dares to explore the dream - YOU KNOW that's how the West was won!

<description>I have been sampling some of your olive oil a lot recently, and I can honestly say it is absolutely delicious. My stir fries have a new found flavour, and salads drizzled with the oil are a dream. Can't wait to get my hands on some more!!

		<description>Hi Maggie,
Best if you send us an email so we can respond at length (our address is in "contact us")
Would the olives be your only source of income? Lots of advice to give you.

My husband and I are looking at buying an olive grove at the moment .......please write some more so I can see the rest of your story ! I am very interested to know how many olive trees we would need to have in order to be able to make a living ??
Like yourself we are so desperate to leave the UK and we have our hearts set on Crete ! Any information that you can give me would really be appreciated. Really enjoyed reading what you have written so far !
